Both institutions approved the accession just a few days ago. The members of the Wine Route as a whole approved, in the assembly held last Monday, July 18, the registration of the new destination. With Sant Joan d’Alacant there are 12 destinations that become part of the route, along with the Vall de Pop, l’Alf\u00e0s del Pi, Villena, Salinas, Algue\u00f1a, Pinoso, Mon\u00f3var, Petrer, Novelda, Sax, Calpe and Teulada-Moraira.<\/p>

For its part, the Sant Joan d’Alacant City Council, in a plenary agreement held last Friday, July 15, also determined its membership in the association.<\/p>

With this incorporation, the Wine Route aims to continue growing in a coherent manner, following the quality standards set by the Spanish Wine Routes in its product manual. The next logical step will be the incorporation of companies from the municipality; catering establishments, accommodation, as well as other tourist service companies.<\/p>

One of the factors that have determined this decision is the municipality’s winemaking footprint evidenced in Finca Ansaldo, a municipally owned BIC. The estate receives its name from the Genoese Ansaldo family who, after settling in Sant Joan in the 17th century, dedicated themselves to the trade and export of wine. Recently restored, the architectural complex consists of: defense tower, kitchens, hermitage, winery and old wineries. The property today houses multipurpose rooms, museum spaces and an interpretation center of the Huerta de Alicante. A disseminating element, the latter, which will contribute historical value to the existing offer of wine museums on the Wine Route, made up of the Ethnological Museum of Alcalal\u00ed, the Maserof Museum Winery in Xal\u00f3 or the House of Marble and Wine in Pinoso.<\/p>

For Mar\u00eda Mi\u00f1ano, president of the Alicante Wine Route, \u201cthe incorporation of Sant Joan d’Alacant to the Wine Route expands and enriches the existing wine tourism offer, constituting an interesting connection node between the Vinalop\u00f3 regions in the interior south and the of the Marina to the northeast and opening the door to possible incorporations from neighboring municipalities.\u201d<\/p>

In the words of Manel Giner, Councilor for Economic Development of Sant Joan, \u201cthat our municipality has joined the Alicante Wine Route as the first in the Alacant\u00ed Region, is a reason for joy and pride, as it will allow that Sant Joan is reunited with its wine-growing past and that our economic activity benefits from the advantages of working, together with the rest of the public and private partners of this product club, participating in its training, training, improvement and dissemination actions of our offer.
